Next Stop China: Fuzhou and its iconic bridge
Stretching like a ribbon across the Minjiang River, Jiefang Bridge connects Fuzhou's Cangshan and Taijiang districts. Once called "Wanshou," or "Longevity Bridge," it was the oldest stone bridge on the river, with origins dating back to 1093 during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127). Having undergone various repairs over the centuries, it was damaged by floods in the early 1990s and later rebuilt as the reinforced concrete bridge we see now.
More than just a busy crossing, the bridge has become part of the river's charm. When night falls and the city lights flicker on, its graceful span casts shimmering reflections across the water, turning the river into a flowing scroll of color and light.
Movie lovers might recognize this bridge from the 2015 film "Lost and Love" starring Andy Lau and Jing Boran. Its iconic span has made a memorable backdrop on the big screen.
