In 1955, with the gushing of industrial oil from the Karamay No. 1 well, the first large oilfield to be discovered after the founding of the People's Republic of China – the Karamay Oilfield – was unveiled.

Located in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the name "Karamay" means "black oil" in the Uygur language. Over the years, Karamay has been advancing smart construction in its oil industry, driving not only the sector's modernization but also the city's overall development. The digital transformation of its oil industry has made production more efficient and its growth more sustainable.
