Qingdao, a coastal city in eastern China, is rapidly developing a lively surfing scene that has grown significantly in recent years. Situated on the Shandong Peninsula, Qingdao is famous for its scenic beaches, mild maritime climate, and stunning seascapes, making it an ideal location for surfing. Although Qingdao has long been a popular summer spot for both locals and tourists, surfing in the city has only gained popularity in recent decades. The city offers a unique combination of surf conditions that appeal to both beginners and experienced surfers alike.
Located in the northern part of the city, Shilaoren Beach has become known as Qingdao’s top surf spot. Its gentle, rolling waves are perfect for beginner surfers. During the summer, the beach attracts a lively mix of tourists, locals, and surfers, creating a vibrant and energetic scene. Asam, who has worked as a surfing professional in Qingdao for 17 years as a coach, judge, and surfing club operator, told CGTN he loves the surfing culture there and that summer is the best time to surf in Qingdao.
