Through cutting-edge digital technology, the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang in northwest China are now shining in a whole new light. With VR immersive tours of the breathtaking murals, a virtual library and 360° dome theater experience, Digital Dunhuang is reshaping cultural narratives, transforming the philosophical wisdom and aesthetic codes of the caves into stories the world can better understand.
As Professor Zheng Chengjun, vice president of Beijing International Studies University, notes, the Digital Dunhuang Library "has shifted the Western narrative's one-sided understanding of Dunhuang. To restore Dunhuang's true origins, we should use our own discourse system to interpret it."
