"Hollywood is not number one," Indonesian director Garin Nugroho proudly shared with CGTN on the sidelines of the 12th Silk Road International Film Festival. According to him, local films make up six of the ten highest-grossing movies in Indonesia. As a jury member of the festival's top honor, the Golden Silk Road Awards, Nugroho reminisced about his elementary school days, when Chinese movies were incredibly popular. This experience fostered his belief that film is the biggest cultural link between Indonesia and China. So he urged filmmakers from both countries to continue nurturing this trend.
