Paris Saint-Germain's French star striker Ousmane Dembele won the Ballon d'Or on Monday after defeating Lamine Yamal of Barcelona in the race.

In his second season with the French heavyweights during the 2024-25 campaign, Dembele was nothing but incredible with 35 goals and 16 assists in 53 appearances in all competitions. He helped PSG retain both the Ligue 1 championship and Coupe de France. More importantly, they lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy for the first time in club history.

"When you're young, you think about winning those titles," Dembele said. "Then, as you grow up, you realize that it's the team titles that matter. But when you're young, you hope to win the Champions League, the World Cup, to be the best player you can be. Winning the Ballon d'Or is exceptional."

The 28-year-old became the sixth Frenchman rated as the best player of the year after Raymond Kopa, Michel Platini, Jean-Pierre Papin, Zinedine Zidane and Karim Benzema.

Aitana Bonmati of Barcelona continued her dominance of the women's award by completing a hat trick of trophies. She's the third player in history to three-peat after Michel Platini (1983-85) and Lionel Messi (2009-12). Her side achieved a domestic treble last season.

Despite his failure to win the Ballon d'Or, Yamal brought home the Kopa Trophy for the best-performing player worldwide under the age of 21. Yamal scored 18 goals and delivered 25 assists in 55 matches to help Barca win both the La Liga and Copa del Rey championships last season.

The women's Kopa Trophy went to Vicky Lopez of Barcelona. Their Polish striker Ewa Pajor received the Gerd Muller Trophy for scoring 43 goals, the most of all players, last season. Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres won the men's award after finding the net 53 times.

PSG were named the men's club of the year. Their boss Luis Enrique won the men's coach of the year award. The club's goalkeeper for last season, Gianluigi Donnarumma who is currently playing for Manchester City, claimed the men's Yashin Trophy for the goalkeeper of the year.

Chelsea's Hannah Hampton received the inaugural women's Yashin Trophy. Arsenal were named the women's club of the year. England manager Sarina Wiegman won the women's coach of the year award.
