World leaders recommitted themselves to empowering women and girls as they marked the 30th anniversary of a landmark United Nations conference on women, held in Beijing in 1995. The UN Secretary-General described that conference as the most ambitious global political commitment on women's rights ever achieved. However, officials acknowledge a lot more still needs to be done.
