In the final of the ATP Hangzhou Open, third-seeded Kazakh Alexander Bublik faced a much more formidable challenge than expected against French qualifier Valentin Royer, ultimately needing two tiebreakers to secure the victory and claim his fourth title of the year.
World number 19 Bublik, showcased his athleticism with a fantastic running lob at 3-3 in the first set. The set went to a tiebreaker, which Bublik won 7-4, sealing it with an ace.
Bublik faced a break point to start the second set, but successfully defended it with a well-timed volley. The match eventually reached another tiebreaker and on championship point, Bublik forced Royer back with a high shot before hammering a forehand down the line to close the tiebreak 7-4.
With this victory, Bublik lifts his fourth ATP Tour title of the season, following triumphs at the Halle Open, Swiss Open, and Austrian Open. This makes him the second most successful player on the tour this year behind Carlos Alcaraz, who has claimed seven trophies.
