How is a movie "born" in the editing room? In an interview with CGTN's Zhang Meng, Polish director and editor Rafał Listopad, a juror in the documentary section of the 12th Silk Road International Film Festival, shared his insights into how a filmmaker translates life into narrative through the art of editing.
He recalled how encountering renowned Chinese director Wong Kar-wai's films in his youth felt "like discovering a new world," shaping his understanding of cinematic rhythm and visual poetry. Listopad also emphasized editing's power to redefine a film's essence, and said he believed that a film is "born three times" – first in screenplay, then on set, and most crucially during editing, where the story finds its soul.
