Expert: Xinjiang's key role in China sparks groundless accusations

02:24

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Over the past seven decades, Xinjiang has undergone remarkable transformations. Nevertheless, Xinjiang continues to face baseless allegations such as "forced labor," "cultural eradication," and even "genocide."

In an interview with CGTN, Zoon Ahmed Khan, a research fellow at the Center for China and Globalization, shares her first-hand experiences from Xinjiang, arguing people there are vibrant and full of life. Meanwhile, Professor Roland Boer from the School of Philosophy at Renmin University of China argues that the accusations against Xinjiang are not rooted in misunderstanding, but rather reflect a deliberate intent to undermine China. He says that the strategic importance of Xinjiang in China's development is the fundamental reason behind such campaigns.
