Poland's reigning Olympic gold medalist Aleksandra Miroslaw shattered her own women's speed climbing world record on Wednesday, capturing her third world title at the IFSC Climbing World Championships in Seoul.
In a rematch of the final from the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, Miroslaw blazed to victory against China's Deng Lijuan in 6.03 seconds, bettering the previous record of 6.06 seconds she set during last year's Olympic qualifiers. Deng, competing despite recent injury struggles, clocked a season-best 6.22 seconds to take silver for the first time at a World Championships.
"This one is special. After the Olympics, the next year is tough for every athlete who took part, so I'm happy for this one. I think my hard work has paid off," said the 31-year-old Miroslaw.
China demonstrated strong team depth with all six athletes reaching the quarterfinals. Zhou Yafei earned bronze after defeating South Korean home hope Jeong Ji-min to pick up her first-ever World Championships medal in a time of 6.34 seconds.
