Latitude 42° north was once labeled a "cotton-free zone" by foreign experts. Yet generations of scientists in Xinjiang have disproved the assertion that cotton couldn't be grown there. Through continuous improvements to seed breeding and cultivation methods, over the past 50 years they have achieved a remarkable transformation in northern Xinjiang, with cotton output going from nonexistent to abundant.
