Every June, Kazak herders uphold a centuries-old tradition on Nalati Grassland. With their flocks and belongings, they migrate from the spring pastures to the lush summer grazing lands of Nalati. On June 11 this year, Baheda'aili Eremubai's family arrived. They pitched yurts, organized supplies and settled their livestock – sheep, cows and horses – onto the alpine meadow.
At maoshi, before dawn breaks, the family rises with dew underfoot and rides toward the sun, guiding their herd. Both a new day and a new season in these golden summer pastures are warmly welcomed.
