In recent years, China has contributed approximately 25 percent of the world's newly added greened area, with over half of this coming from afforestation and grass planting in the Three-North Region.

The Three-North Shelterbelt Project – a large-scale ecological initiative spanning more than seven decades – has been pivotal to this progress.

Since 2023, over 1 million hectares of land have been restored under ecological management efforts. The Horqin Sandy Land is now regaining its savanna-like landscape, while sediment inflow into the Yellow River has been significantly reduced.
