At least 39 people, including nine children and 17 women, were killed and more than 50 injured in a stampede at a political rally in southern India on Saturday, according to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. The rally was organized by film actor Vijay in support of his political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the loss of lives, calling the incident "deeply saddening" in a post on X.
