In Altay Prefecture of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, lies Ulungur Lake known locally as "Fuhai" – the Lake of Blessings. It is both a key fishery in Xinjiang and the "mother lake" from which Fuhai County takes its name.

Zhang Haijiang is a second-generation fisherman raised by Ulungur Lake. From following his father onto the lake as a teenager, he has grown into the Yubatou, lead fisherman. His life and these waters are inextricably intertwined.

In 2025, the Fuhai Winter Fishing Festival celebrated its 18th year. On January 18, as Weishi arrived with the early afternoon, the festival’s first fish broke through the ice to the cheers of jubilation. This annual spectacle carries the fishermen's enduring wish for Ulungur Lake to flourish and for happiness to last. It's also both a simple hope and a reverent promise to cherish this lake forever.
