Barcelona battled from behind to beat Real Sociedad 2-1 at home on Sunday, with Lamine Yamal setting up Robert Lewandowski for the winning goal, moving the defending champions ahead of Real Madrid to claim first place in the Spanish La Liga standings.

Yamal, who claimed his second consecutive award for Best Player Under 21 at the Ballon d'Or ceremony last Monday, showcased his Kopa Trophy ahead of kickoff at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium.

In the 10th minute, Marcus Rashford went close for Barcelona, but the English striker saw his shot well saved by Alex Remiro.

Sociedad slipped to 17th place, but not before taking a surprise lead in the 31st minute when Ander Barrenetxea beat Jules Kounde in the box and crossed to an unmarked Alvaro Odriozola, who slid in to finish.

Barcelona equalized in the 43rd minute when Rashford's corner was headed in by Kounde, with the French defender making amends.

After entering the match as a substitute at halftime, Yamal returned from a groin injury and delivered a brilliant cross to Lewandowski, who headed in the winner in the 59th minute.

Lewandowski almost doubled his tally off Dani Olmo's backheel a minute later, but the Pole's strike hit the crossbar. Barcelona settled for a 2-1 victory, marking their sixth win in seven games to move one point above Real Madrid at the top of the table.
