A Chinese envoy on Monday urged Israel to immediately cease all military operations in the Gaza Strip and fulfill its obligations as the occupying power under international humanitarian law.

Speaking at an open meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the ongoing Israel-Palestinian conflict, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong said in light of the current urgent situation, the international community must unite together, build consensus, uphold an objective and fair stance, and make greater efforts to resolve the Palestinian issue, and work for a ceasefire with the greatest urgency.
