A Chinese envoy on Monday called for accelerated efforts to resolve the Palestinian issue.
The current round of the Israel-Palestine conflict has lasted for two years, causing an unprecedented humanitarian disaster. However, Israel continues to advance its military operation in Gaza City, accelerating the encroachment on West Bank territories, and carrying out air strikes against Hamas personnel engaged in peace talks in Qatar, said Chen Xu, China's permanent representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, at the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva.
These actions seriously violate international law, gravely infringe upon the rights to survival and development of the Palestinian people and neighboring countries, and directly undermine stability in the Middle East, Chen added.
He urged the international community to prioritize resolving the Palestinian issue, work toward a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, revitalize the two-state solution, and maintain peace and stability in the Middle East.
Chen reaffirmed China's consistent support for the just cause of the Palestinian people, expressing China's readiness to implement both the Global Security Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative. He stated China will work with the international community to promote an early, comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution of the Palestinian issue.
