Expert questions Trump's plan to tariff movies made abroad

00:32

U.S. President Donald Trump stated in a Truth Social post on Monday that he will impose a 100 percent tariff "on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States." He did not specify when or how the tariff would be implemented. If enforced, this would be the first time Trump has effectively imposed a tariff on a service rather than a good.

But experts are questioning the plan. As one points out, with production in the UK and editing in the U.S., it's unclear how a movie should be taxed—and even the president's proposal leaves key questions unanswered.
