On September 29, Shanghai recognized foreign individuals who have made contributions to the city's development with the Magnolia Gold Award.
This year's award was presented to 28 foreign nationals from across the globe – including the U.S., UK, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore and Japan – and from fields including finance, trade, tech, shipping, healthcare, education, research and culture, as two other expats became Honorary Citizens of Shanghai – the highest title bestowed to foreigners.
The ceremony was buzzing with energy as Chinese and international guests exchanged warm handshakes and heartfelt words, expressing their love for Shanghai and pride in being part of its story. Since the launch of the Magnolia Awards in 1989 and the Honorary Citizenship program in 1997, 1,907 foreign friends have been honored – 51 as Honorary Citizens, 390 with the Gold Award, and 1,466 with the Silver Award.
