Home second-seed Wang Manyu cruised past her compatriot He Zhuojia 11-8, 11-8, 11-6 in 25 minutes in the women's singles first round at the World Table Tennis (WTT) China Smash in Beijing on Monday.

Having taken the first game quickly, Wang trailed 8-7 in the second, but then she scored four straight points to double her advantage. The 26-year-old continued to dominate the contest and soon sealed the deal for her place in the second round.

Japanese No. 8 seed Mima Ito defeated Chinese wildcard Qin Yuxuan in four games. The 19-year-old home youngster caused some trouble for Ito in the second game, but generally, she made too many mistakes that cost her the match.

Ito will meet South Korea's Joo Cheo-hui in the second round.

On the men's side, home veteran Lin Gaoyuan beat Wong Chun Ting of China's Hong Kong 11-6, 11-9, 11-7 in the first round.

"We are quite familiar with each other and I prepared a lot before the competition," Lin said after the victory. "I didn't win for a long time and I needed to find the feeling of a victory. I did a good job on my preparations and played well when the match began. I played resolutely and made adjustments effectively when meeting difficulties."

Lin will meet his compatriot, No. 6 seed Liang Jingkun in the second round.
