Sun Yingsha enjoyed a comfortable double win on Tuesday at the WTT China Smash, dispatching Zhu Sibing before teaming up with Wang Chuqin to grind out a comeback win in mixed doubles.
The women's top seed barely broke a sweat in her solo outing, conceding just 10 points in three games as she swept Zhu 3-0. But in the evening she and Wang, who between them boast three world titles, were pushed far harder: the sixth‑seeded pair received a first‑round bye and then rallied from a game down to beat Australia's Aditya Sareen and India's Yashaswini Ghorpade 11-13, 11-4, 11-5, 11-7.
Next up for the home favorites is compatriots Chen Yuanyu and Kuai Man, fresh from an upset of top seeds Lim Jong‑hoon and Shin Yu‑bin.
There were a few shocks elsewhere. Chinese Taipei prodigy Lin Yun‑ju was an early casualty in the men's draw, losing 3-2 to Japan's Yukiya Uda in the wake of fourth seed Tomokazu Harimoto's surprise exit on Monday.
Local hopefuls Lin Shidong, Xiang Peng and wildcard Zhou Qihao all progressed, while qualifier Yuan Licen fell 3-0 to Sweden's Kristian Karlsson.
