Factories in southern China are rolling out modular apartments – complete with kitchens, bathrooms, windows and floors – before shipping them to Hong Kong like Lego blocks for instant assembly. Borrowing from car manufacturing, this method has drastically reduced construction time and cost. Hong Kong's first light public housing estate went up in just one year, offering families better homes as they wait for permanent public housing.
