Former Citibank VP: Building trust is key to unlocking AI's potential

Artificial intelligence (AI) is driving a transformation as profound as the invention of electricity, said Edgar Perez, former vice president of Citibank, during an special TV program of CGTN titled "Embrace the AI era: Global Governance Initiative in action."

With AI applications rapidly emerging across industries, Perez stressed the urgent need for governments and institutions worldwide to build public trust in the technology. "We must ensure transparency, accountability and fairness. Otherwise, we risk destroying that trust," he said.

Perez emphasized that only by safeguarding these principles can AI truly benefit society and unlock its potential to transform every sector of the economy.
