Every journey home is a search for identity. Guo Yicheng – born in Taipei and now a professor of Chinese Culture and Art in Beijing – travels to Fenyang city in north China's Shanxi province, where his ancestral roots trace back to the Tang dynasty.
Upon the boundless Loess Plateau, he strums his guitar along to the ancient poem "Jinse" (The Zither), weaving music and memory into the windswept earth.
In CGTN's original documentary "Returning Roots: A Journey Across the Strait," Guo retraces the path of his forebears, through song, poetry and painting, revealing not only a personal quest for belonging, but also a living story of the unbroken ties that bind the Chinese nation across the Taiwan Strait.
