Shanghai Shenhua battled to a 1-1 draw at home on Wednesday against South Korea's Ulsan HD, in their latest AFC Champions League Elite group stage match.
Six minutes into the game, Luis Asue tried to capitalize on an Ulsan defensive error, but failed to convert a one-on-one opportunity against goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo. The visitors had a chance of their own in first-half stoppage time, but Shanghai's Xue Qinghao comfortably saved a long-range strike from Matias Lacava.
The deadlock was broken three minutes into the second half, with Asue scoring for Leonid Slutsky's side. The forward from Equatorial Guinea finished with a first-time strike past Jo, after Joao Teixeira's deflected cross fell into his path.
Ulsan responded 15 minutes later, when Ko Seung-beom set up Gustav Ludvigson, who side-footed a volley into the bottom corner to level the score.
Shanghai came close to grabbing a late winner in the 74th minute, but Asue missed another one-on-one shot, and the contest ended 1-1.
Shenhua will next host Seoul in the group stage, while Ulsan face Japan's Sanfreche Hiroshima.
