Hu Zongfeng, President of the Shaanxi Translators Association, reflects on a timeless lesson from the Great Virtues in the Chinese Tradition, a volume he co-translated with British scholar Robin Gilbank. The book distills centuries of moral philosophy into vivid stories – one of which reveals how Confucius guided his son, Kong Li.

As Confucius stated, "Without learning the Book of Songs, one cannot express oneself appropriately in public." Similarly, "without learning the Book of Rites, one cannot stand firm in society or navigate social relations."  

"The Book of Songs" as Confucius taught, represented the highest cultural achievement, while "the Book of Rites" signified the importance of upholding rules and maintaining propriety.
