China has just rolled out the brand-new K visa, starting October 1, opening fresh opportunities for young global talent in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Except for specific age, educational background and work experience requirements, K visa applications do not require a domestic employer or entity to issue an invitation. The application process is also expected to be more streamlined with multiple entries, longer validity and extended stays.

The decision comes as part of China's ongoing efforts to simplify visa rules and promote international exchanges. By the end of July, China had introduced unilateral visa-free entry or mutual visa-exemption agreements with 75 countries.

Application details for the K visa will soon be available through Chinese embassies and consulates overseas.
