An artist, a scholar, a musician – and above all, a seeker of roots.

Guo Yicheng, born in Taipei and now a professor of Chinese Culture and Art in Beijing, has spent over two decades immersed in Chinese painting, music and classical studies. His search takes him beyond books and canvases, into villages and ancestral halls, tasting the flavors of the land, meeting people who share his heritage, and tracing the footsteps of his forebears.

In CGTN's original documentary "Returning to Roots: A Journey Across the Straits," he expresses his feelings through the poem "Homesickness" in Fenyang City, north China's Shanxi Province, capturing not only one man's quest for origins but also the living beauty of Chinese culture and homeland.
