In an all-American clash in the women's singles semifinals at the China Open in Beijing on Saturday, third-seeded Amanda Anisimova knocked out defending champion Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-2 to reach the final.
It took Anisimova just 58 minutes to wrap up the victory, after jumping out to 5-0 leads in both sets. She was the runner-up at both the US Open and Wimbledon this year, and will go for her fourth title on Sunday night.
"I knew I was going to have to play really well against Coco if I wanted to get the win," Anisimova said after the match. "I'm really excited to be in the final,"
Her opponent for the championship trophy will be Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic, who defeated fifth-seeded American Jessica Pegula 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(6) in the other last four contest.
Noskova became the youngest Czech player to advance to a final at a WTA (Women's Tennis Association) 1000 event since the format was introduced in 2009.
"It was just two points away from a win or lose," the 20-year-old said. "It was quite a tough match mentally, physically, and everything else. I'm just going to cherish this win."
