China's Wang Hao stole the headlines at the Weightlifting World Championships in Forde, Norway, on Friday, winning two gold medals to top the men's 60kg snatch and overall standings.
The 27‑year‑old made an assured senior-level debut, topping the snatch at 138kg and finishing with a 164kg clean and jerk for a triumphant total of 302kg. Thailand's Theerapong Silachai was his closest chaser, taking silver in the overall final with 299kg, while the DPRK's Pang Un Chol rounded out the podium at 295kg.
Another Chinese newcomer, Yuan Hao, also impressed. He finished fifth overall, and set a new junior world snatch mark of 132kg, which combined with a 149kg clean and jerk to give him a total of 281kg.
In the women's 53kg division, the DPRK's Kang Hyon Gyong claimed two golds, clean and jerk and overall, with a 93kg snatch and 121kg clean and jerk for a total of 214kg. Romania's Mihaela‑Valentina Cambei took the snatch title at 94kg and silver overall with 208kg (94+114), while Thailand's Surodchana Khambao earned the overall bronze at 200kg.
