China's National Day box office surpasses 1.1-billion-yuan mark as people flock to cinemas

CGTN

By 6:08 p.m. Saturday, China's National Day holiday box office revenue surpassed 1.1 billion yuan (about $155 million), according to online platform data.

The eight-day holiday, which started on October 1, is usually a busy time for moviegoers and a fiercely competitive period for the movie theater industry in China. Leading this year's National Day box office is the domestic war epic "The Volunteers: Peace at Last," the final installment of director Chen Kaige's "The Volunteers" trilogy. The film depicts the intertwined struggles of battlefield combat and tense diplomatic negotiations during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953).
