Juniansyah sets clean-and-jerk world record with 204kg at IWF worlds

Sports Scene

Despite two failed attempts in his first outing in the newly introduced 79kg class, Indonesia's Olympic champion Rizki Juniansyah still walked off with two golds and a new world record at the IWF World Championships on Monday.

Juniansyah opened the snatch with a confident 157kg but missed his next two attempts, leaving him third in that discipline behind DPRK's Ri Chong Song (163kg) and Egypt's Abdelrahman Younes (162kg). China's 17‑year‑old Ning Gan posted 157kg to finish fourth in the snatch.

The drama came in the clean and jerk. After starting at 195kg, Juniansyah surged to a world‑record 204kg, eclipsing a mark set just two and a half hours earlier by teammate Rahmat Erwin. He forfeited his final lift and closed with a 361kg total, enough for overall gold, a single kilo clear of Ri and Younes, who each totaled 360kg.
