A mainland spokesperson on Wednesday warned Lai Ching-te and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in China's Taiwan region that the momentum toward reunification is irresistible and seeking "independence" by relying on foreign forces is bound to fail.
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks in response to a question about Lai's interview on "The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show."
Lai is once again distorting facts and making reckless remarks, hyping up the so-called "mainland threat," peddling fallacies of "Taiwan independence" and division and clamoring for "seeking independence by force" and "relying on foreign forces," as well as deceiving both Taiwan residents and international public opinion, Chen said.
His actions fully expose his true nature as a "destroyer of cross-Straits peace" and a "creator of crises in the Taiwan Straits," the spokesperson added.
Since taking office more than a year ago, Lai has gone against mainstream public opinion on the island, stubbornly clung to his "Taiwan independence" stance, and aggressively promoted separatist fallacies, Chen said, adding that Lai has continuously heightened cross-Straits confrontation and intensified tensions in the Taiwan Straits.
Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and both the mainland and Taiwan belong to one and the same China – a historical and legal fact that cannot be questioned, nor can it be changed, Chen noted.
Reunification will prevail, and "Taiwan independence" will perish, Chen said, adding that Lai and secessionist forces are no more than ants trying to shake a tree – they will ultimately be swept into the dustbin of history.
