U.S. National Guard members from Texas assembled at an Army Reserve center in Illinois on October 7, a day ahead of a planned deployment to Chicago – a move strongly opposed by local Democratic officials.

A U.S. military official said that about 200 troops from Texas are expected to be deployed, while about 300 from Illinois are also preparing for deployment, according to The New York Times.

U.S. President Donald Trump has already sent troops to Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., and ordered deployments to Memphis, Chicago and Portland, warning he may invoke emergency powers if courts attempt to block his actions.
