Tropical storm prompts mass evacuation in southwest China

00:46

Over 17,000 residents in Yunnan's Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture have been moved out of the path of Typhoon Matmo under evacuation orders. Matmo was downgraded to a severe tropical storm after making a second landfall in Guangxi. Funing County, bordering Guangxi, was hit first, triggering landslides, road damage and flooded crops. Evacuations began in preparation for Matmo's worst impacts. Heavy machinery has been deployed to clear debris while flood prevention efforts continue across the region.
