As Israel and Hamas confirm the first phase of a ceasefire agreement, the two-year-long conflict reaches a temporary pause. Wang Jin, director of the Center of Strategic Studies at Northwest University in China, reflects on this significant step toward peace, noting the potential for successful implementation in the short term. However, he cautions that the future remains fraught with challenges, including the formation of a new Gaza government, economic rebuilding and Hamas' role in the region. Despite obstacles within Israel's cabinet, the ceasefire is expected to be approved, though there is concern that fighting may resume once the first phase concludes. The international community may play a crucial role in monitoring and assisting with the peace process, according to Wang.
