China's National Day holiday box office tops 1.8 billion yuan

According to data from the China Film Administration, the 2025 National Day holiday box office reached 1.835 billion yuan (about $258 million), with 50.07 million moviegoers nationwide. More than 3.1 million screenings were held, marking a 12.82-percent year-on-year increase. The average ticket price dropped to 36.64 yuan (about $5.15), down 3.75 yuan (about $0.53) from last year, representing a 9.28-percent decrease. Domestic productions dominated the market, accounting for 98.93 percent of total revenue.

As of October 8, China's total box office for 2025 has reached 43.789 billion yuan (about $6.15 billion), an 18.98-percent increase year on year, exceeding the 2024 full-year total by 1.287 billion yuan (about $181 million). The total cinema attendance climbed to 1.035 billion, up 19.39 percent from the previous year, with an additional 25.28 million admissions.

A nationwide survey found that audience satisfaction during the National Day holiday scored 85.4 points, up 2.1 points year on year, the highest level in four years.

The seven key films evaluated in the 2025 National Day satisfaction survey covered a range of genres, including war, drama, animation, fantasy and comedy, meeting the audience's growing demand for diverse cinematic experiences.
