2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the Palace Museum in Beijing. To honor this historic milestone, the special exhibition "A Century of Stewardship: From the Forbidden City to the Palace Museum" opened to the public in late September, officially kicking off the centennial celebrations. Once the imperial palace of China's Ming and Qing dynasties, this UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site is far more than a static historic building – it is a living repository of China's 5,000-year-old civilization. Every courtyard here serves as a vivid stage for "dialogues between the past and present," a precious legacy the Palace Museum has safeguarded with unwavering dedication over the past century.
In this episode of THE HYPE, we are joined by CGTN host Julian Waghann and four distinguished guests to help us decode the Palace Museum's cultural core: Martijn de Geus, associate professor at the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University; Zhang Jianxi, location sound recordist of the documentary films "Masters in the Forbidden City" and "A Century of Stewardship;" Cao Zijin, a senior contemporary art specialist; and Yao Haijian, a Beijing-based bilingual tour guide. Tune in to a review of the Palace Museum's century of confidence, inclusiveness and innovation – and a front-row seat as the future rises from red bricks and yellow tiles.
