The Israeli government early Friday approved a ceasefire deal with Hamas, clearing the way to suspend hostilities in Gaza within 24 hours and free Israeli hostages held there within 72 hours after that, according to Reuters.
Israel and Hamas signed the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement in Egypt on Thursday.
The United States is sending about 200 troops to Israel to help support and monitor the ceasefire as part of a team that includes partner nations, nongovernmental organizations and private sector participants.
