China is set to host the Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in Beijing. The last major milestone for global gender equality in the capital took place 30 years ago – the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995. Its legacy, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, continues to serve as a comprehensive global framework for advancing gender equality.
The Declaration placed strong emphasis on eradicating women's poverty, advancing education and health, eliminating all forms of discrimination and violence, and creating the conditions necessary for women to participate equally in all spheres of life and leadership. CGTN's Liu Jiaxin reviews China's progress in empowering women over the past decade, particularly in the economic, educational and health sectors.
