This year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. In 2015, the UN adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, setting out 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Among them, Goal 5 calls for achieving "Gender Equality: Empower All Women and Girls." This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing, a milestone event that gave birth to the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Ten years ago, to commemorate that moment, China and UN Women co-hosted the Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment at the UN Headquarters in New York. This October, China is once again hosting a Global Leaders' Meeting on Women, reaffirming its commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment worldwide.
