Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday met with Sylvanie Burton, president of the Commonwealth of Dominica, who is in Beijing for the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women.

Xi hailed Dominica as a good friend and partner of China in the Caribbean.

Over the past two decades since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two countries have always respected each other and treated each other as equals, Xi noted.

Political mutual trust has been steadily consolidated, exchanges and cooperation in various fields have flourished, and people-to-people friendship has grown deeper, he said, adding that the relationship has become a model of friendly cooperation between countries with different social systems and of different sizes.

China is ready to work with Dominica to bring bilateral relations to a higher level and deliver more benefits to the two peoples, Xi stressed.

Xi called on both sides to strengthen political trust, enhance exchanges on governance experience, and increase interactions between governments, legislatures and political parties.

The Chinese president also urged the two countries to deepen practical cooperation, vowing that China will continue to support Dominica in enhancing its capacity for climate change response and disaster prevention.

Xi also highlighted cooperation in infrastructure, clean energy, healthcare, agriculture and women's empowerment, as well as closer cultural, educational and tourism exchanges.

He emphasized the need to strengthen multilateral coordination, jointly implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, and work together to build a community with a shared future for humanity.

Xi also underscored the importance of implementing the consensus of the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women and advancing cooperation on women's capacity building.

For her part, Burton said China is a great friend and a highly valued partner of Dominica. She expressed appreciation for China's valuable support and sincere friendship.

Burton noted that Dominica and China share common values and aspirations, and that closer ties will bring a brighter future for the Dominican people.

She reaffirmed Dominica's firm support for the one-China principle and expressed willingness to deepen cooperation with China in trade, agriculture, green economy, new energy, healthcare and climate change response, as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

Burton said Dominica is ready to advance cooperation between Latin America and China and continue to write new chapters in bilateral relations.

She stressed that China, as an important force for peace and stability in today's world, has put forward the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity, sharing development opportunities with the world, promoting solidarity among the Global South and inspiring people across nations, becoming a beacon of hope for the world.

She added that President Xi's Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative and Global Governance Initiative have pointed the way for countries to achieve peaceful coexistence and common prosperity.

Dominica is willing to strengthen cooperation with China, oppose unilateralism and hegemonism, and safeguard the common interests of developing countries, Burton added.
