Chinese and Icelandic presidents agreed to enhance mutual cooperation during their meeting in Beijing on Tuesday.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said since establishing diplomatic relations 54 years ago, China and Iceland have adhered to mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation.
He added that the fruitful bilateral outcomes demonstrate that countries with different national social systems can transcend differences to achieve mutual benefit.
China values its relations with Iceland and is ready to enhance exchanges and deepen cooperation to benefit both peoples, Xi added.
The Chinese president stressed that both sides should continue to respect and support each other's chosen development paths and firmly uphold each other's core interests and major concerns.
Xi called on both countries to deepen practical cooperation in fields including economy, trade, geothermal energy and others. They should also work together to advance green transformation and address climate change, while strengthening people-to-people and cultural exchanges in areas such as tourism and education to enhance friendship and mutual understanding.
Noting China and Iceland support multilateralism and uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law, Xi said the two sides should maintain close communication, jointly commit to resolving international disputes through dialogue and consultation and promote the building of a more just and equitable global governance system.
Xi also called on both countries to take the opportunity of the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women to promote the continuous development of global women's causes.
Icelandic President Halla Tomasdottir congratulated China on successfully hosting the meeting.
Appreciating China's important contributions to advancing global women's causes, Tomasdottir said Iceland is ready to strengthen communication and cooperation with China to promote the comprehensive development of women worldwide.
Tomasdottir highlighted the long-standing friendship between Iceland and China has fostered a strong and robust bilateral relationship with fruitful cooperation in areas such as trade, geothermal energy and tourism.
Iceland attaches great importance to its relations with China and is committed to further expanding the scope of cooperation and enhancing people-to-people exchanges to achieve even greater progress in the bilateral ties, the Icelandic president added.
Noting China has demonstrated leadership in addressing global challenges in the face of a turbulent and uncertain world, Tomasdottir said Iceland is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China to jointly tackle those global challenges.
