China's women returned to the continental paddle peak with a clinical 3–0 victory over returning titleholders Japan in the final at the ITTF-ATTU Asian Team Championships in Bhubaneswar, India, on Wednesday.
The final opened with a minor flourish of suspense, as China's Wang Manyu dropped her opening game against Honoka Hashimoto 12-10. But the World No. 2 regrouped to convincingly grab the next three 11-3, 11-6, 11-3, giving her side a 1-0 overall lead.
World No. 1 Sun Yingsha then laid down the hammer, sweeping past Miwa Harimoto 11-9, 11-5, 11-7 to extend China's edge to 2-0.
Kuai Man closed out the championship contest with grit, persevering past Hina Hayata 8-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-9 to complete the sweep.
China's victory avenges a loss from last year's final and secures the squad's spot at next year's ITTF World Team Championships in London.
