Last year saw 1 in 12 people on the planet go hungry, says Gerardine Mukeshimana, the vice-president of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, a specialized UN agency dedicated to eradicating poverty and hunger in rural areas of developing countries.
On World Food Day, CGTN conducted an in-depth conversation with Mukeshimana, covering solutions to food security amid intertwined and multiplying global threats such as climate change and conflicts. China's experience of eliminating absolute poverty "is a very good model for other developing countries," Mukeshimana says, adding that IFAD works with China to transfer tried-and-true technologies and empower young people and women in the agricultural sector.
