Trains going through a building? This is happening in Hanoi!
The Cat Linh-Ha Dong elevated railway project, Hanoi's first metro line, was designed to ease growing traffic congestion in the city's western area and contribute to its socio-economic development. Built by the China Railway Sixth Group, the 13-kilometer line features 12 stations across three districts in Hanoi. Traveling on this line saves nearly an hour compared with going by car.
As a new landmark in Hanoi, the project introduced an advanced and modern mode of public transportation to Vietnam for the first time. Some young people even choose to take their wedding photos at the stations.
Since its inauguration in 2021, the Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro line has served over 34 million passengers as of March 25, 2025. For many residents, the metro has become an essential part of daily life.
