Data from China's National Bureau of Statistics highlight notable improvements in people's well-being during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). The average life expectancy of Chinese residents reached 79 years in 2024, up 1.1 years from 2020.

At the same time, per capita disposable income grew largely in line with GDP, and basic pension insurance coverage expanded to more than 1.07 billion people, with participation surpassing 95 percent. With the urban surveyed unemployment rate remaining below the 5.5 percent control target, China continues to make progress towards ensuring more secure, inclusive and higher-quality living standards for its population.
