The world's first land-based commercial small modular reactor (SMR), Linglong One, has successfully completed its Cold Functional Test, a key structural pressure test, in China's southern island province of Hainan. According to its developer, the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), the milestone paves the way for the next stages leading up to commercial operation. Linglong One holds global significance as the first such SMR to pass the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) safety review, marking a major step forward in the commercialization of advanced nuclear technology.
